Vegan Footwear

Happy Tuesday Shoesday everyone! Boy, was my Monday kinda crazy... torrential down pour and thunderstorms all over Toronto resulted in the power going out around 5 pm and it just came back on at 11:45 pm. Luckily no flooding and all is well in the BF's condo - hope everyone else in this area stayed safe and dry and boredom-free tonight!

Anyways, today's post is brought to you by Dawn of The Crispy Sage. She's a foodie blogger focusing on vegan meal planning - she wanted to broaden the scope of vegan-ism from food down to your footwear!

---

Do you immediately envision a barren wasteland of Crocs, hemp sandals, and pleather? A place where feet are made to feel ugly, deodorant is frowned upon, and razors are banned from use on legs and armpits?

Well, not anymore.
Thanks to companies like Mink and Moo Shoes, and celebrities like Natalie Portman, vegan footwear has reached new heights when it comes to wearable, fashionable shoes that happen to be animal-free.
So, why vegan? Even though vegans get a bad rap sometimes, opting for animal-free footwear is not only great for the animals (I’m sure cows everywhere will thank you), but it’s better for the environment, and often better for your wallet – which means more shoes for you!

I’ll be the first to admit that my closet is not completely leather-free. But, it’s primarily because I assumed vegan shoes would be ugly, expensive, difficult to find, and inappropriate for a professional environment.

Boy, was I wrong! I reached out to a few vegan community groups that I know, and asked them to educate me on my options. Just look at these beauties:

 One / Two
Five / Six

I want every single one of them in my closet right this second.

The best part is…I looked at hundreds of pairs of shoes when I was researching vegan footwear. The options are endless, and it makes my heart sing. Now that I know I can rock some leather-free platforms and very cute flats, my closet is about to get a complete overhaul.

What do you think about vegan footwear? If you have awesome, affordable options, would you go animal-free on your tootsies? Have you found any great resources that you’d love to share?

Comment below with your thoughts, and then check out these delicious resources for vegan footwear (my favorites are starred):
  1. Mink Shoes*
  2. Alternative Outfitters*
  3. Moo Shoes*
  4. Stella McCartney
  5. Mod Cloth*
  6. Marais USA
  7. Charmone
  8. Lulus Vegan
  9. Big City Vegan
Note: Zappos does have a vegan section on their website, but the shoes tend towards sporty or very casual (i.e. not fashionable).

Who would've known there would be so many faux options available that are so cute? My favorite has to be the Modcloth strappy heel. Thanks Dawn for sharing today!

Have a great Tuesday everyone!

  3. I buy the majority of my shoes from Payless. Most are man made materials and they have some cute stuff! You will be seeing a bunch tomorrow on my Etsy page! Yay!

    Hi Cheryl,

I wasn't specifically looking for them, but some of the sites had such extensive collections, I'm sure they're out there somewhere!
